Grace Notes Books Youth Division: Youth/Young Adult Novel
Grace Notes Books is launching a children's literature division and are especially interested in seeing chapterbooks for middle readers and youth/young adult novels (or short story/essay collections) for tweens & teens. We are also interested in poetry for kids that posesses a sharp wit and a clear understanding of the way a child's mind works.
YA novels should be appropriate for readers grades 6-8 or grades 9-12 but we would prefer to publish manuscripts that appeal to all ages. We appreciate works that include strong entertainment values such as humor, suspense, and/or drama and especially enjoy manuscripts that combine these elements. Themes, plots, and characters should be appropriate for young people and while the general language of the novel need not vary much from what one would see in an adult novel, authors should use common sense in terms of appropriate materials. No excessive profanity, no sex, no criminal activities (unless it's essential to the story), etc.
Please submit only the 1st chapter of your manuscript along with a cover letter that includes a brief synopsis of the plot.
